The reports of rift between Indian skipper, Virat Kohli and his deputy in white-ball cricket, Rohit Sharma has been making rounds since team India’s ouster from World Cup 2019. Though the BCCI continues to deny it, but there surely seems to be something wrong in the dressing room. As per a report in India Today, BCCI has started the procedure to solve the differences between the two players.

Prior to World cup as well, the news of rift between the two emerged but it got stronger once India made an exit from the World Cup 2019 following the loss at the hands of New Zealand. No player has commented on the matter and for the first time, Indian skipper Virat Kohli will face media in the evening when he will attend the pre-departure conference with head coach, Ravi Shastri.

It remains to be seen if he answers the questions related to the reports of a rift with his deputy. It is to be noted that after World Cup, news made rounds that Rohit might be appointed team India’s limited-overs captain with Kohli keeping the charge in red-ball cricket.

It’s not that Kohli does not have a good record as captain; team India has failed to win two ICC Trophies under Koli despite making it to the second round of the tournaments. In 2017, India had lost the final of ICC Champions Trophy.
He has been leading Royal Challengers Bangalore since 2013 but the franchise is yet to win the trophy.

On the other hand, India won the Asia Cup 2018 under Rohit. To add to it, he has also led Mumbai Indians to four IPL victories. MI is the most successful franchise in the history of the tournament with four trophies.
For now, the board does not have any plans to split captaincy due to the fact that it has never worked in Indian cricket.
