The chief selector MSK Prasad tenure will come to an end on 23rd October. So the finding of new chief selector has started. Laxman Sivaramakrishnan is being considered as the option for the position. Currently, the former Indian cricketer is working as a commentator for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Laxman Sivaramakrishnan played 9 Test matches and 16 ODIs for India and is being seen as the candidate who can replace MSK Prasad. As per the New Indian Express newspaper, BCCI is not able to find more options because of the salary package. It is to believe that many experienced players have rejected the offer and only, Laxman has shown interest. Though he has a contract with BCCI as a commentator, he has to end this contract for the new position.
BCCI is also considering to make changes in the salary package of the selectors. There is news that the salary of the chairman of the senior national selection panel will be Rs 1.5 crore. Also, the salaries of the selectors of the junior men’s and women’s team will also be increased. BCCI will soon have to decide for new selectors since the series against Bangladesh starts just 10 days after the final Test against South Africa.
Sarandeep Singh, Jatin Paranjpe and Devang Gandhi, the other selectors in the panel are set to continue in their roles till 2020. There will be one more position for which BCCI has to find the candidate. Zonal Cricket Committee pannel representer’s place will be empty after the Gagan Khoda’s term will end. Vijay Dahiya is considered to be a potential replacement for Kohda.
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) currently led by Kapil Dev, Shantha Rangaswamy and Anshuman Gaekwad has the responsibility to appoint the chief selectors and coaches. The BCCI will also consider making this job as paid as it is difficult to find a full-time member for this post.
