The Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) met in New Delhi earlier today and have decided to forward a letter to International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the security concern of their players in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019.

Meanwhile, the recent Pulwama Terror attack has created a stir countrywide as a Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) rammed an explosives-laden car into a CRPF bus, killing at least 40 personnel and leaving many critically wounded. On the back of it, India have cut several ties with the neighbouring country. Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has called for a boycott of Pakistan match to show their protest. On the other hand, Chetan Chauhan wants India to put pressure on ICC threatening to boycott the whole event.

On the rising speculations, the members of CoA met to take a call on it in an hour-long meeting. Following the discussion, Vinod Rai noted that they have discussed to sent a letter to ICC mentioning the Pulwama attack. The letter also contains that players should get adequate security during the showpiece event.

We have mentioned in the letter about our concerns after the Pulwama terrorist attack. We have told them clearly that security of the players should be appropriately taken care of at the 2019 World Cup,” Rai said.
The CoA, however, gave no indication that India will pull out of the June 16 World Cup clash against Pakistan in Manchester. Vinod Rai stated that they would take the final call upon talking with the government. They also informed ICC that India would not engage in ties with nations sponsoring terrorism.
That game is still 3 months away. We will take a call on that match at a later date in consultation with the government,” Rai said.

The CoA also decided that there will be no opening ceremony for the 12th edition of IPL next month. Instead, the money allocated for the opening ceremony will go to the family of the martyrs. The upcoming edition of the IPL will commence from March 23 with Chennai Super Kings facing Royal Challengers Bangalore.
