BCCI is likely to terminate contracts of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals; and is considering the options to call tender for two new franchise or inviting foreign teams to participate in the tournament. But, if the BCCi finally terminate CSK and RR’s contract then its biggest worry will be to face legal backlash.

The IPL governing council meeting will happen on August 29 in Mumbai to receive and study the report submitted by the BCCI-appointed five-member working group. “Termination is a very much an option, as much as auctioning two new teams is,” BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur told TOI on Saturday. When Thakur, the secratry of the board, is talking about the termination then both the tainted franchises will be terminated.

However, IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla, who is heading the working group which includes Thakur, wasn’t very vocal about sacking the teams. “We haven’t formed an opinion on that. It can have legal ramifications, even the Lodha Committee hasn’t recommended that,” Shukla said.

Highly placed sources said the BCCI is extremely worry about the legal tussle it can endure if SCK and RR dicide to go in court if terminated.

Earlier Rajiv Shukla said that the Lodha Committee verdict is final before set a three member committee to lay out future plan for next IPL.

CSK and RR – if sacked – will be free to go to court. But, BCCI determined to host eight franchise IPL in 2016.

Another interesting view coming out in Saturday’s meeting if court allow them to return then the Board can host a 10 team IPL.

On Saturday, the working group met three franchise owners, central sponsors, broadcasters and all other stakeholders in the IPL at asuburban hotel in Mumbai.

Currently, two franchises are against bringing two new franchises through auction. They believe that CSK and RR will erode the overall value of the league as well as the other teams.
