The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will name India squads for the T20I and Test series against Bangladesh on October 24, a day after Sourav Ganguly will take over as BCCI’s President. The biggest question will be regarding MS Dhoni, who is set to miss the series.
There are high expectations that the selection panel and Ganguly will ask him about his plans and it will be up to the former Indian skipper whether he makes himself available for future or not. Should he make himself unavailable, news regarding his retirement might also be around.
The second talking point will be Virat Kohli, who is set to be rested for the T20I series. Multiple reports have confirmed that the Indian skipper will miss the T20I series. He will be back for the Test series. In his absence, Rohit Sharma will lead the T20I squad.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is expected to make his comeback for the T20Is while other members are expected to be retained. As per a report in Mumbai Mirror, Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube are also in contention for selection.
It remains to be seen if Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal make their comebacks in the shortest formats. They have been out of the T20I squad since the tour of West Indies.
For Tests, India are expected to name the same squad which played against South Africa. Shahbaz Nadeem, who made his debut in the third Test, might be dropped as Kuldeep Yadav is expected to retain his spot.
Nadeem had been called into the Test squad as a backup to Kuldeep, who was suffering from a shoulder problem. He could not clear the fitness test on the morning of the Ranchi Test, which saw Nadeem make his debut.
India will continue to miss out on the services of Jasprit Bumrah as he is only expected to make a comeback for the tour of New Zealand next year.
The Bangladesh tour of India kicks off on November 3. Despite Bangladesh’s players protesting against their board, the series seems to be on track.
