BCCI To Put A Cap On Number Of Yo-Yo Tests A Player Can Undergo

With the Indian team management making it clear that every player has to pass the yo-yo test in a quest to play for India, there is a race between the discarded players to appear for the trial and get themselves passed to be in contention to find a place in the team.

In August, both Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina appeared for the test, and a failure in clearing the test saw both of them not being considered for the series against Sri Lanka then.

Both the players went back and again appeared for the test almost two months later and again, both of them failed to achieve the desired mark.

Both have now failed the test twice in two months, and with players appearing for it on a daily basis, it has now become a concern for the board as well.

To solve this issue, BCCI is all set to put a cap on the number of occasions a player can appear for the test. The decision has been taken after Yuvraj looked for it as if a player performs for it in every month or two, then it is a wrongful move as there can be a case when he might not be able to maintain the fitness standards as required by the team.

To solve the issue, BCCI is planning to conduct the yo-yo test after a certain period, so as it increases the fitness longevity of players and send a message that players appearing for it have to maintain the fitness level to make an entry in the Indian team.

Meanwhile, it was already confirmed that players like Cheteshwar Pujara and R Ashwin cleared the yo-yo test. Both the Indian players are currently playing Ranji Trophy as they are not a part of the Indian cricket team. Both of them though will be making a comeback to the Test side as they are a regular player in this format of the game.

Neither of two has been named in the squad for the ODI series against New Zealand. While Pujara is not an ODI material, Ashwin’s exclusion has again surprised many as selectors haven’t given any reason behind his and Ravindra Jadeja’s continuous ignorance from the team.
