Soon after Indian team crushed Australia on the fourth day of Dharamsala Test, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a cash reward for the Indian players, coaches and support staff. The apex Board announced an incentive of Rs 50 lakh for each player, Rs 25 lakh for coach Anil Kumble and Rs 15 lakh for each member of the support staff.
However, it is learnt that Anirudh Chaudhary, the treasurer of BCCI opposed this move of Committee of Administrators (COA) citing that this decision can be announced in general body meetings. COA, in response to Chaudhary’s query, responded by saying that now they are the in-charge to take such decisions, hence, Chaudhary’s views were overruled.
The members of COA confirmed the news to India Today and said, “Forever it has been the president who has made such announcements. Now it is the CoA. Why the treasurer was objecting we don’t know?”
“India have won today. What is the point of announcing the award three weeks later? It will look strange if we did so,” COA added.
The four-member COA led by Vinod Rai was appointed by The Supreme Court of India on January 30. Now it is the COA which will see all the day to day business of BCCI and it is their right to look into how BCCI should work.
The Test series between India and Australia marked the end of the long home season which started on September 22 with a three-match Test series between India and New Zealand at Kanpur. India overpassed each and every obstacle in their way, to win each and every series.
