BCCI Had Tried Its Best To Patch Up But It Didn’t Work Out, Says Rajiv Shukla

IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla has clarified that skipper Virat Kohli and coach Anil Kumble had completely contrasting viewpoints which led to a rift between the two.

The controversy related to the differences between Kohli and Kumble first surfaced just before the start of the Champions Trophy 2017. It was reported that many senior players including Kohli were unhappy with his man – management methods. Things became so sour that Kohli approached the BCCI and later spoke with CAC members Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman.

Eventually, the matter took another huge turn after Anil Kumble finally resigned from the job last night while also shedding some light on what exactly were his experiences during his stint as the coach.

Speaking about the entire controversy, IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla asserted that the BCCI made its efforts to help the two bury the differences. However, things were not in the control of the apex cricketing board and they eventually had to let the two of them take their own individual decisions which resulted in Anil Kumble walking out.

“BCCI had tried its best to patch up the matter but it did not work out. The differences were clear and so Anil Kumble decided to quit.”

The BCCI, who have already invited the application for the coach’s role, has now sped up the process of finalising the candidates for the top job. The Indian team is currently in the West Indies preparing for the upcoming limited overs tour against the hosts after finishing as the runners-up in the Champions Trophy 2017.

“We are in the process of finding the next coach. It will be shortly done. These differences do
happen and we just have to move on. Captain will not have any say in coach’s selection. Neither he will be included in the selection meeting nor will be consulted.”

As of now, outspoken former cricketer Virender Sehwag is the front runner for the job along with Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody, Richard Pybus, Afghanistan coach Lalchand Rajput and Dodda Ganesh.

All these names are set to be interviewed by the CAC trio of VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar.

It also said that the former Australia pacer Craig McDermott had also shown keenness. Apparently, he applied for the role but BCCI won’t be considering as his application arrived after the deadline.
