BCCI’s Acting President Acknowledges Virat Kohli’s Concern over ‘Cramped Schedule’

The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI), acting President CM Khanna, has admitted that the board should assess Virat Kohli’s concern over ‘tight schedule’ which will give the cricketers only two days after the Sri Lanka before leaving for South Africa next month. Khanna also wanted the apex body to decide between three back to back series.

“Virat is the Indian captain and his viewpoint on cricketing matters should be taken with utmost seriousness. We are proud how the team is performing but if players are feeling fatigued, we need to have a broader view on the issue,” Khanna was heard saying to PTI earlier today.

The Indian cricketers are playing non-stop cricket since the Indian Premier League followed by the ICC Champions Trophy, two away tours to West Indies and Sri Lanka and then three back to back series in home conditions against Australia, New Zealand, and the ongoing Sri Lanka series.

Khanna while admitting that the board will look into this during the home season further stated:

“I think we should analyze if it is a good option to have three back-to-back series with hardly any break for the players. The matter should be taken up at an appropriate forum. It will be great if this can also be included in the agenda for the December 9 Special General Meeting.”

BCCI has demanded a separate slot during October to December to organize home series from the International Cricket Council. Initially, the November-December slot was allotted to the home and away tours to Pakistan till 2023 and the broadcasters were arranged accordingly. However, at present, a bilateral series between the countries is not possible due to the political tension between the two countries. So the New Zealand and Sri Lanka series was slotted in during this period.

“The two series against New Zealand and Sri Lanka were replacement slots for the Pakistan series. Only the Australia series was in the Futures Tours and Programmes because as per our MoU with CA, the Test and limited-overs series will be separate tours when the two countries tour each other,” a senior official said while talking to PTI.

Sri Lanka was in the same line with BCCI opposing the proposal the change the governing structure which they lost by 2-8. BCCI has often helped the Sri Lankan cricket during their tough times by playing against them. India will again take Sri Lanka in a tri-nation tournament including South Africa in March next year.
