Batting great Sachin Tendulkar has stated that his support for the Indian Cricket Team will always remain high and remain unaffected despite failures or underwhelming performances.
“Our good wishes are always with the (Indian) team. Be it men’s team or women’s team,” Tendulkar told reporters ahead of the India-Sri Lanka ODI series which begins with the first match at Dambulla on Sunday.
In a cricket obsessed nation like India, it is often dangerous to not perform to your potential as a sportsman. The public outrage and criticism can make things bit scary.
Tendulkar, one of the most revered cricketer in India, also known as the God of Cricket, was also not safe to these bias from the overly emotional sect of fans and had his posters burned after the 2007 World Cup disaster. Things are changing, however, as people tend to treat wins and losses in a sporty way these days.
Tendulkar’s opinion should also help in creating more awareness about this fact.
“We will go with them, whether their performance is good or it is little less than our expectations. I will say that we will continue to support the team and I expect that you are there with me,” he added.
The Virat Kohli-led team will take on Sri Lanka in first ODI of the 5-Match series on Sunday after monumentally dominating in the Test series, clinching it by 3-0.
India will begin as favourites to win despite, Sri Lanka fielding an unpredictable and relatively younger team under the leadership of Upul Tharanga. This upcoming series will also be an excellent opportunity to experiment with the strong bench strength that they have with them.
A couple of untested names like Manish Pandey, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel can look forward to getting some more limited-overs experience under their belt.
