Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes have been ruled out of Australia ODI's.

England has ruled out Chris Woakes and all-rounder Ben Stokes from the remainder of the Royal London ODI series against Australia.

The decision was taken following the thigh and hamstring injuries suffered by the duo respectively. It was against Pakistan at the start of the month. The ECB had announced they would miss “the first part” of ongoing five-match ODI series against the Aussies.

In a release update on Monday ahead of the 3rd fixture in Trent Bridge. England will look to take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. They further added Stokes would miss the rest of the ODI series.

However, they stated his recovery is progressing well. The all-rounder is expected to continue his rehabilitation with the squad for the 4th and the 5th ODI. He is expected to available by the time the T20I series starts against India early next month.

He is therefore expected to continue his rehabilitation with the squad during the fourth, and fifth ODIs. It will be with a view to being available again in time for the three-match Twenty20 international series against India. It is slated to begin early next month. Meanwhile, chances of Woakes returning for the limited-overs series against India looks bleak.

“No return date can be specified at this stage,” read the ECB update –It further added Woakes wouldn’t be available at least till the start of the ODI series against India. The series starts on 12th July. The ECB statement read,

“Chris Woakes’ right quad tear, which he sustained at Emerald Headingley in the second Test against Pakistan earlier this month. It was at least in part due to a flare-up of a chronic right knee problem.

“He has had an injection for the knee issue last Monday. He will now undertake a rehabilitation and conditioning programme to address both injuries. A date for return cannot be specified at this stage, but he will not be available before the India Royal London ODI series.”

The ECB further stated the hamstring of Stokes is progressing well.

“(His) torn left hamstring is progressing well, at just over two weeks since he sustained the injury in the build-up to the second Test against Pakistan at Emerald Headingley.

Stokes can bat fully and back to 90% fitness

“He can bat fully and is now able to run at 90 per cent capacity. He will commence his return-to-bowling programme this week.

“The plan is for Ben to continue his rehabilitation programme with the England squad during the fourth and fifth ODI at Emirates Riverside and Emirates Old Trafford. He is expected to be involved in the preparation, with a view to being available to play in the IT20s against India starting next month.”
