England all-rounder Ben Stokes is hopeful that the team could reach the best ODI team status in the coming months if they manage to continue their fine form.
The English tea have managed to clinch the ODI series against Bangladesh 2-1 as they have achieved a feat that none of India, Pakistan and South Africa have managed in their recent tours to Bangladesh.
Stokes has been a vital part of the team as he was very useful with both ball and bat as he scored an important unbeaten 47 in the final ODI to help England win the series against a Bangladesh team who are very strong at their home.
The 25-year old has expressed his happiness over the side’s victory under new captain Jos Buttler as he hopes that they could become No.1 if they continue their good work.
“It’s really exciting. If we carry on like this we’ll achieve our target of being world number one,” Stokes was quoted as saying by a Sky Sports report.
England are currently in the fifth position in ODIs after Australia, South Africa, new Zealand and India and will have to play consistent cricket if they hope to move higher in the rankings. South Africa, New Zealand have been playing some tremendous cricket in ODIs for the last two years and England have to follow the same path if they were to achieve more success.
Stokes added, “The team we have had together for the last 18 months have been playing unbelievable cricket.”
England captain Eoin Morgan had decided to not tour Bangladesh on security issues which has paved way for young Jos Buttler to lead the side. Buttler who was given an inexperienced side to battle aginst Bangladesh who has won their last six ODI series at home has been very good in his captaincy and has put the tea together to win the series.
“Me and Jos work quite well. We are quite aggressive in how we want to play our cricket, not just with the bat and the ball, but with field placings,” Stokes said.
