Krishna Das, the rookie fast bowler from Assam has now been the man to watch in Bengal’s all important Ranji Trophy match in Guwahati, starting tomorrow. The fast bowler who had debut in the Ranji Trophy at his age of 15 only was thrown out of the game by a severe accident which caused severe fractures in his non bowling arm (left arm) as well as left knee. Still he came back in the game with excellence and skill with sheer determination and has been playing a major role in trying to guide his state to the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals this season.
However, both the captains of Bengal and Assam, Manoj Tiwari and Gokul Sharma seem to be confused over the pitch where the match will be played. According to Bengal skipper, Karnataka, playing on this turf was all out for only 187.
But at the same time, the pitch is showing gleam of grass also. That might be the reason Bengal team’s think-tank is planning to make the combination of spin and quick bowlers in the squad. And in that case two spinners like Pragyan Ojha and Amir Gani and along with Ashok Dinda two swing bowlers like Sayan Shekhar Mondol and Laxmi Ratan Shukla might be included in the first eleven for the match. Incidentally, Veer Pratap Singh has been released from the team due to his ongoing hamstring injury. Shukla, after coming off injury for a long time is likely to be back in the tournament.
Both Bengal and Assam have garnered 25 points from their respective seven matches so far. Any of the team will be ensuring berth in the quarterfinals with three points from this match. But if the teams can earn only one point with a draw then both the teams will have to depend on the results of Vidharv-Hariyana and Maharastra-Karnatak matches.
Bengal cricketers had gone to famous Kamakhya temple on Monday to pray for three points from this match.
