Best Performances Of Indian Players Against Bangladesh In Tests

India vs Bangladesh one-off Test match is on the cards as Virat Kohli’s men are ready to host Bangladesh for the first time in India to play a Test. Previously, both teams competed in 2015 in a drawn Test in Bangladesh where Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan displayed their heroics.

So far, both sides have played eight Tests against each other with Bangladesh yet to open their account. Six of the 8 fixtures in the past have been won by Team India while the other two matches have ended in a draw. India’s 100% success against Bangladesh is due to their outstanding performances. So, today we unveil some of the finest performances of Indian players against Bangladesh in Test cricket.

Shikhar Dhawan’s 173 runs at Fatullah (10-14 June 2015)

Dhawan

The one-off Test at Fatullah in June 2015 commenced on a high note for the Indians as the opener Shikhar Dhawan was off to a blistering start along with Murali Vijay. The Delhiite showed some terrific class with his bat against the likes of Mohammad Shahid, Soumya Sarkar, and Shakib Al Hasan. His 173 runs innings off just 195 balls in a Test match was exceptional. It put his team in command as India declared their 1st innings at 462 for 6.

The visitors were on the top after wrapping up Bangladesh on 256 in their 1st innings but consistent rain forced India to settle for a draw.

Zaheer Khan’s 7 wickets for 87 runs at Mirpur (24-27 January 2010)

Zaheer Khan

India’s one of the most consistent fast bowlers; Zaheer Khan was at his best when India toured Bangladesh in 2010. The Mumbaikar took 10 wickets in Mirpur Test and led his team to a glorious victory over Bangladesh. After he sent Bangladesh back to the pavilion on 233 in their 1st innings, the Indian batting giants helped their team to put 544 runs on the board.

Nobody except Tamim Iqbal, who scored 151, managed to score well as Zaheer Khan ran through Bangladesh’s line-up by taking seven wickets in the 2nd innings. India once again had the last laugh against Bangladesh by winning the game.

Sourav Ganguly’s 100 runs at Chittagong (18-22 May 2007)

Sourav Ganguly

India’s one of the finest batsmen and successful skipper; Sourav Ganguly was unstoppable after his comeback in 2006 against South Africa. He continued his fine form in Bangladesh too as the former skipper scored a solid century along with Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who also supported him with 101 to his name. India scored 387 in their 1st innings and did not let Bangladesh find their path, as the hosts were all out for mere 238.

Bangladesh’s bowling attack shocked Team India in the 2nd innings as they took six wickets for 100 runs. Rahul Dravid, the skipper, declared the innings by giving a target of 250 to the hosts. The match ended in a draw as 250 was quite big for the final session of the Test. Bangladesh was praised for their performance but it was Sourav Ganguly who remained on the top in terms of appreciation.

Sunil Joshi’s all-round performance at Dhaka (10-13 November 2000)

sunil joshi

The 90’s cricket fans must be very well aware of Sunil Joshi. The slow-left arm bowler was the player of the match in India’s first-ever Test against Bangladesh. Despite Bangladesh’s good performance in the first innings, Sunil Joshi managed to take five wickets for his team. He grabbed scalps at regular intervals when the team needed it the most.

On the other hand, India scored 429 in their 1st innings with the contribution from every batsman. Skipper Ganguly made a valuable 84 while Joshi once again proved to be a gem for his side as he scored 92 with the help of nine boundaries. Team India thumped Bangladesh by nine wickets after the hosts collapsed for just 91 runs in their 2nd innings. In the 2nd innings also, Joshi took three wickets at an economy of 1.50.

Sachin Tendulkar’s 248* at Dhaka (10-13 December 2004)

sachin tendulkar

After sending back the hosts Bangladesh for just 184 in their 1st innings, something iconic was written for Sachin fans. Legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar scored his career-best 248 in this game when India came out to bat in their 1st innings. The maestro was unstoppable as he hit 35 boundaries in his iconic innings. His outstanding show helped his team to achieve the huge total of 526 runs.

With a 300-plus run lead, Ganguly’s army was all set to win this battle and they did it in style with the help of Pathan power. The Baroda guy took six wickets in the 2nd innings; handing India a massive victory by an innings and 140 runs. Though Irfan Pathan was named as the Player of the Match with 11 wickets, it was little master Sachin Tendulkar, who stole the show with his superb double-century.
