Big Bash League 2018/19: Melbourne Stars vs Melbourne Renegades – Report

Big Bash League 2018/19: Melbourne Stars vs Melbourne Renegades – Report. Melbourne Stars won the 16th match of the Big Bash League 2018/19 by seven wickets and 13 balls to spare. Stars were able to cruise to the target of 149 runs. Glenn Maxwell won the toss and decided to bowl first.

1st Innings:

Melbourne Renegades had a perfect start when their openers added 52 runs for the opening stand. However, Mackenzie Harvey got out when Stars captain Glenn Maxwell took a good catch while running back. Furthermore, Renegades lost four quick wickets.

It was an easy win for Stars.

Thus, the visitors could find the impetus in their innings. Daniel Christain scored 32 to get back Renegades into the contest. However, the all-rounder could not read the slower ball from Dwayne Bravo and perished in the process to get going.

The tourists kept losing wickets at regular intervals and didn’t get the impetus on their side. Meanwhile, Marcus Stoinis and Scott Boland scalped two wickets each whereas Dwayne Bravo took three wickets to push the opposition behind the eighth ball. Bravo was once again right on the money with his yorkers and slower ball variations.

2nd Innings:

Melbourne Stars got off to a fine start as their openers, Ben Dunk and Marcus Stoinis added 67 runs. Ben Dunk scored a crucial knock of 32 runs to lay down the solid foundation.

Stoinis was able to time the ball to perfection and carried his bowling confidence into his batting. The right-hander smashed four fours and as many sixes in his blistering knock of unbeaten 78 runs.

Marcus Stoinis was given good support from the Stars captain Glenn Maxwell. The skipper was able to hit the ground running and smashed a six on the second ball he faced. Maxwell scored 33 runs from just 22 balls to take Stars over the finishing line. Cameron Boyce scalped two wickets and gave away only 23 runs in his four overs quota.

Marcus Stoinis was the Man of the match for his all-around performance.

Brief Scores: Melbourne Renegades: 148-9, Daniel Christian 32 (28), Dwayne Bravo 3-27.

Melbourne Stars: 151-3, Marcus Stoinis 78 (49), Cameron Boyce 2-23.
