Big Bash League 2018-19: Sydney Sixers vs Sydney Thunder – Report. Sydney Sixers cruised to a comfortable win against their counterparts Sydney Thunder by nine wickets (DLS method) in the ongoing Big Bash League. Thus, this was Sixers eighth win of the season as they have strengthened their hopes of qualifying for the semifinal stages.
Sydney Sixers vs Sydney Thunder: Sydney Thunder Innings
Sydney Thunder didn’t get off to a good start when they lost Jason Sangha in the third over of the innings. The right-hander tried to go for the cut shot but found the top edge which was nicely taken Steve O’Keefe at third man. Shane Watson tried to accelerate but he went to cut the ball which was too close to his body and thus found his outside edge. The Sydney Thunder captain scored 28 runs from 25 balls.
On the other hand, Callum Ferguson could not find his timing as he chewed 33 balls for his 22 runs. Meanwhile, southpaw batsman Anton Devcich scored a run-a-ball 22.
However, Chris Green gave the finishing touches to the visitor’s innings. Green scored 34 runs from 22 balls with the help of three fours to help his side post 128 runs on the board. On the other hand, Seam Abbott was the pick of the Sydney Sixers bowlers as he scalped two wickets and conceded only 23 runs in his four overs. Furthermore, Tom Curran bowled with great control and took two wickets. Steve O’Keefe and Ben Dwarchius scalped one wicket each.

Sydney Sixers target of 129 runs was revised to 124 runs after rain intervened during the innings break. The host’s Sixers got off to a worse possible start as they lost their opener Josh Philippe on the first ball of the innings. The right-hander played the ball towards mid-off and jetted off for a quick single. However, Daniel Hughes declined the single and Philippe could not get back into his crease.
Rain once again made its appearance and the target was revised to 84 runs in 12 overs. James Vince continued his good form going as he scored an unbeaten knock of 43 runs. Furthermore, Daniel Hughes scored 41 off just 27 balls to add 85 runs for the second wicket with the English batsman.
