Shane Watson led side Sydney Thunder won the rain-curtailed match of the eighth season by beating Melbourne Stars by 15 runs. Thus, it was a fine start for the Thunder side. Melbourne Stars captain Glenn Maxwell won the toss and decided to bowl first. Thunder got off to a decent start when their big-hitting openers, Shane Watson and Jos Buttler added 39 runs for the opening stand.
However, Adam Zampa who had a good T20I series against India was able to strike when the opening partnership was looking threatening. Subsequently, Sandeep Lamichanne also made an impressive start on his BBL debut.

Jason Sangha shows his pyrotechnics.
The leg-spinner got the better off the big fish, Shane Watson and also got Callum Ferguson in his first over. However, Lamichanne was taken to cleaners in his final over by Jason Sangha.
Jason Sangha was also making his debut in the BBL smashed 63 runs from just 36 balls. The right-hander scored four fours and four sixes in his blistering knock. Thus, Sangha scored the fastest fifty in the BBL history.

Sangha was given good support by all-rounder Daniel Sams. Sams scored 34 runs from 21 balls as he batted in the topmost gear. Furthermore, Daniel also had a fine match with the ball.

The seamer scalped three wickets and gave away only five runs in his spell. Hence, he was awarded the Man of the match for his all-around performance.

However, the Melbourne Stars target was revised to 90 runs in eight overs after rain made its appearance. Stars could not get any momentum into their innings as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Nick Larkin gave some hopes to the chase as he scored 28 runs from 13 balls, but other batsmen could not come up with substantial scores.
