Aaron Finch praises South African bowlers

The Australian selectors, on Saturday, dropped opener Aaron Finch and George Bailey from the 14-member ODI squad for the five ODIs against Pakistan. Hilton Cartwright, who made his debut in the third Test against Pakistan at the SCG, has also been dropped after being included in the squad for the Chappell-Hadlee trophy against New Zealand last month. Chris Lynn, Usman Khawaja and Billy Stanlake have been called up to the squad.

Lynn has been given a chance riding on his brilliant show in the ongoing season of Big Bash League. He has plundered a total of 309 runs in five innings at an average of 154.50. The strike rate of 177.59 reveals his impact in the game.

Stanlake’s inclusion in the side comes as a surprise as the inexperienced fast bowler has played just two first-class and four List A games. His ability to click the pace of 145/kmph is something that has forced selectors to make a way for him in the squad.

Aaron Finch has been dropped after a poor show in the previous series against New Zealand, where he scored just 22 runs in three innings whereas Bailey too has been punished for the same as the former skipper scored 40 runs in three contests.

Steve Smith, who led the team to a successful clean sweep over New Zealand, has been retained as the captain with David Warner his deputy. Both Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood have been retained in the squad despite the talks of both being rested for the upcoming series.

The five-match ODI series starts on January 13 at the Gabba.
