Former Indian cricketer and coach Bishan Singh Bedi has lambasted the culprits for maligning the image of gentleman’s game.

Bedi’s statement came after Australian Cameron Bancroft attempted to scuff the ball in Cape Town.

Ex-Indian skipper Bedi referred the fresh incident in Cape Town as a tragedy for the modern-day cricket while adding such devious acts have made the sport to suffer in the recent past.

“I would like to think it as one of the great tragedies of modern cricket,” while speaking to the newswire PTI, Bedi said.

The legendary bowler Bedi further deemed players responsible for attempting to scuffing the ball.

“There is no doubt there has been a mistake and the players are responsible for this,” Bedi told PTI.

The 71-year-old veteran left-arm spinner Bedi maintained it could not be the tactic of just two players. While expressing the sadness, he felt there is a lot to be done in the contemporary cricket.

The captain has accepted it, acknowledged the mistake, top management has admitted, this is not a handiwork of one or two players. It’s very sad,” Bedi asserted.

On March 25, Bedi added the action has to be strict over such issues while reiterating he does not rely on any limitation regarding the sternest of the actions.

“According to me, no limit could be prescribed for strict action. We do mislead, misguide kids — winning at any cost is a message that is wrong,” Bedi added.

Having the massive experience on his back, Bedi stated it’d always been important to impart the best to the wards respectively.

“Winning is important, but winning by fair means, is the message we must spread,” Bedi further added.

Since his international debut in January 1967, Bishan Singh Bedi played 67 Tests and 10 One-day Internationals. He bagged 273 wickets across formats.

The former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja also reacted over the ball-tampering saga. He believes the world cricket body International Cricket Council is there to witness where the competition should be going.

Concluding, Jadeja stated the representatives of the game have to decide the state of the game in particular. He hasn’t said much regarding the fresh controversy.
