Former Indian cricketers Bishan Singh Bedi and Farokh Engineer are likely to chair the six-member panel which will be elected by the Supreme Court on Friday, reports suggest.
The fate of cricket’s governing body in India lies in the hands of the apex court, who will announce the interim panel, which eventually will run the administration of the BCCI on a temporary basis.
In a report submitted by India Today, it has been learnt that out of six, three would be the ex-cricketers. The committee set to be chosen will oversee the day to day activities in the board, and would rather make sure any misconduct or false happening doesn’t take place.
Interestingly, both Engineer and Bedi are above 70 years, which contradicts one of the many recommendations laid by Lodha Panel, which reads, no one above the age of 70 years would be eligible to hold any post in BCCI. And if, going by the reports, both Bedi and Engineer get elected, a chaos is expected to take place anytime soon.
Apart from them, other names expected to make the cut are former Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India Vinod Rai and historian Ramachandra Guha.
The Supreme Court, on January 2nd, sacked former BCCI president Anurag Thakur and honorary secretary Ajay Shirke from their respective posts, after Thakur was accused for perjury, which resulted in him getting axed. For time being, Rahul Johri is leading the charge of the board as an interim boss.
