‘Blame BCCI For Jeopardising India vs England Test Series’

The scuffle between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Lodha panel has gone bad to worse as now, a direct attack has been launched upon the BCCI President Anurag Thakur and Secretary Ajay Shirke. A member close to Lodha committee says both the BCCI officials are to be blamed for not signing the necessary affidavits, as proposed in the Lodha recommendations ordered by Supreme Court.

“Both Thakur and Shirke haven’t followed the SC order and haven’t filed the compliance report. Thakur was also supposed to furnish undertaking equivocally to the committee on how he would be implementing the reforms. That has also not been done. The England tour has been put in jeopardy by Thakur and Shirke,” a source close to the committee told TOI.

The issue has gripped attention after BCCI was ordered to make all the transitions crystal clear in front of Lodha committee, now it would be the Lodha committee that’ll pass and oversee all the financial transaction of the board, BCCI is unable to accept this restriction put on them.

Lodha Panel secretary Gopal Shankarnarayan, cleared the air by standing with Lodha committee stating that it is the responsibility of BCCI to complete the necessary documents, so to allow the series go smooth “To avoid any hindrance to the cricketing calendar and to ensure the continued enjoyment of the sport by its aficionados, the BCCI would be well advised to comply with the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in its orders dated 18 July 2016, 7 October 2016 and 21 October 2016. You may also note that this committee is not a full-time committee, nor does it have a secretariat”.

The same thing happened during the series against New Zealand when Anurag Thakur created a sensation by saying that board might have to cancel the series due to unavailability of funds. However, the series continued in a proper manner despite the small scare.

Inside story may be different but from outside it is clear that the BCCI is not happy with Lodha committee’s intrusion in the matter of board whereas Lodha committee is keen to keep the board on the way, they want, as per the law.

The first Test match between India and England is scheduled to be played from November 9 in Rajkot. However, uncertainty still looms over the fact that whether series will be played or not.
