Rangpur Riders skipper Mashrafe Mortaza has been fined 40 percent of his match fee while his teammates coughed up 20 percent of their match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate during the Bangladesh Premier League game against Dhaka Dynamites on Tuesday (November 21).
The Rangpur-based outfit was found guilty of bowling two overs short when time allowances got considered.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), on Wednesday, released a statement, confirming the news in addition to stating that the veteran pacer pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, as a result of which no further hearing was required.
According to Article 2.5.1 of the BCB Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minor over-rate offences, the players are fined 10 percent of their match fees for each over their side fail to bowl within the allotted time while the skipper is needed to pay double that amount.

Meanwhile, coming to the game, Rangpur defeated Dhaka by three runs in a thrilling encounter at the Shere Bangla National Stadium. Batting first, Rangpur were all out for 142 in the last over. Veteran batsman, Chris Gayle top-scored for them, scoring 51 off 28 while Dhaka skipper Shakib Al Hasan was the standout bowler, picking up five for 16.
Rangpur began their defence in style with Mortaza dismissing the in-form and dangerous Sunil Narine for a duck. However, the home side was looking primed to chase down the total after racing to 69 for two in the ninth over before Evin Lewis’ departure turned the game on its head. The Dynamites kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for 139.
