Brad Hogg has explained the reason why it is important for Dinesh Karthik to continue as KKR skipper and not replaced by Eoin Morgan. An IPL skipper has to bear the burden of all the criticism and is not an easy task to do. Karthik is the most experienced player in the KKR squad but has failed to deliver with the bat until now in the four matches played.
England limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan, who has returned to KKR this year, is in quite some form and has scored 136 runs at an average of 68. KKR fans have been in a frenzy of appointing Morgan as the captain, replacing Karthik.
Brad Hogg wants Dinesh Karthik to use more of Eoin Morgan’s skills
The former Australian spinner has opined that he’d love to see Eoin Morgan as KKR’s captain but Dinesh Karthik is doing a good job. He suggests Dinesh Karthik utilise more of Morgan’s skills in the game.
“Look, I’d love this move to make Eoin Morgan KKR captain. Morgan is a great captain, and when you got someone like that in your team, you got to utilise those skills. But Dinesh Karthik is doing a good job, but he has to utilise Morgan’s skills,” Hogg said in reply to a fan’s question on a video uploaded on his Youtube channel.
Brad Hogg explains why Dinesh Karthik should stay KKR’s captain
The IPL’s rule to only have four foreign players in a team comes as a hindrance for Morgan to be appointed as the skipper, feels Brad Hogg. He stated that if Morgan drops form and is needed to be replaced with Tom Banton then KKR would be again stuck without a captain and hence they would stick with Karthik as skipper.
“You gotta realise in their team they can only play four overseas players. If Morgan starts finding a little bit of misfortune with his form, they have to bring in Tom Banton. Having him as captain will make it difficult to drop Morgan. So, I’d stick with Dinesh Karthik, but utilise Morgan’s experience,” Hogg said.
Dinesh Karthik led KKR are all set to face MS Dhoni-led CSK in their 5th clash of IPL 2020, coming from recent two losses. The Kolkata based team will be looking to break their losing streak against Chennai.
Kolkata Knight Riders will face Chennai Super Kings at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, tonight. CSK sit just behind Kolkata at the 5th spot, having played an extra match.
