The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed that the player auction for the upcoming tenth edition of Indian Premier League will be conducted next month in Bengaluru.
There has been lot of skepticism over the happening of the cash-rich league as there has been a legal battle going on between the board and Lodha panel over the recommendations that the committee has made.
The IPL franchises’ workshop will be organised in Dubai, as the governing council of IPL has made today after a meeting in New Delhi.
IPL is into its final edition as per the existing contract for 10 years and there has been a lot of talks going on about the future of the tournament as recently the media rights tender rights got postponed indefinitely just hours ahead of the schedule.
Earlier BBCI secretary Ajay Shirke has also said that the future of the IPL is in jeopardy as he quoted as saying: “The 2017 Indian Premier League is in danger. We have no idea whether it’s happening. How can it happen? We’ve already conveyed the details to the Committee on what needs to be done. There’s a long list that we sent to them on the work that’s pending. There’s no time.”
Cities like Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur will be allowed to hold matches in the next edition as the matches from the above mentioned grounds were forced to be moved out last season to Visakhapatnam due to the drought faced by Maharastra.
BCCI president Anurag Thakur, Secretary Ajay Shirke, GC chairman Rajeev Shukla, former India captain Sourav Ganguly, Jharkhand Cricket Association chief Amitabh Choudhary and Punjab Cricket Association President MP Pandove were present in the meeting.
However, further details about the auction are yet to be revealed as there have been rumors that all the players would be put back into the auction next month and the league could see established players like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Harbhajan Singh get new franchises.
