Indian allrounder Suresh Raina is set to miss the second ODI against New Zealand at Delhi as he is still recovering from the viral fever. The 29-year old has ben recalled to the ODI squad for the first three ODIs against New Zealand due to his good performances for the Gujarat Lions in Indian Premier League this summer.
Raina who was expected to be fit in time for the second ODI after getting ruled out of first ODI has suffered yet another setback as he is now limited to just one ODI to prove his mettle in the squad now.
With Yuvraj Singh slamming selectors’ doors with his incredible performances for Punjab in Ranji Trophy, Raina is keen to keep hold of his place in the ODI squad and will have to bat out of his skin to ensure he is pretty much an integral part of the ODI team as MS Dhoni is looking to build the team for the 2019 World Cup.
Indian team will not be playing many ODIs till the Champions Trophy next year and Raina has too make sure that he plays to the best of his abilities to make sure he earns his lost place in the ODI team.
Raina was recalled to the ODI squad for the first time since South Africa series last year despite his poor performances for Indian T20 side earlier this year. The selection came as a shock to many observers but the player is determined to make the most of the opportunity as he might not get many more chances to break into Indian team if he fails to make use of the current opportunity.
The newly appointed selection panel has voted for Suresh Raina as they believe he could replicate his IPL form to Indian side. But now the southpaw has to wait till 23rd October for the third ODI which will be played at Mohali.
