Breaking: US tour – India to play against West Indies in three T20Is

Team India is likely to play its first international match in the United States as BCCI plans to schedule a short T20I series against West Indies in Florida during late August.

It is understood that BCCI is looking to play the three T20 matches at Central Broward Regional Park at Lauderhill in Florida, which is currently hosting six CPL matches. However, there is also a possibility of Bangladesh joining the tour as an alternative which could become a T20 tri-series.

Sources close to BCCI has confirmed that the talks about the series are in advanced stage and meeting would take place in Lauderhill late on Tuesday night to decide the final schedule.

“West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) officials will be meeting in Florida to sort it out. We are just waiting for the green signal. It’s amber already, you can say. The matches will likely be played over the last weekend of August. It will be peak summer in Florida, and it will be a spectacle. However, there is slight chance of Bangladesh being invited as the third team for a tri-series,” the source said.

BCCI has originally planned Mini-IPL but has to drop the idea for the current year due to the busy schedule of Team India as long home season awaits Indian Test team. However, the board who initially thought to launch mini IPL in US this year is keen to cash in with the T20 series.

“Since the BCCI had to call off the mini-IPL, it’s understandable that they are keen on taking cricket to the USA, and this is a great chance to sell this series as a contest between heavyweights India and world champions West Indies, who only a few months ago met in a dramatic World T20 semifinal. Considering that Florida houses a huge number of Indian and West Indian expats, if this series does happen, we could well be looking at this becoming an annual fixture,” the source added.

The Central Broward Regional Park has already hosted four T20 internationals in the past which saw New Zealand feature in all the fixtures as the kiwis played two each against Sri Lanka and West Indies.

Cricket is a growing game in the United States and have received massive response when Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne clashed against each other in All-star series last year which proved the craze for the game in the US.
