Brian Lara Names Two Indian Batsmen Who Can Break His Record Of 400 Test Runs
Brian Lara, whose Test record was recently under threat, has named the two players who can break his record of 400 runs in a Test innings. Till the date, nobody has been able to break the West Indies legend’s a decade-old record.
Former cricketer holds the record of both the highest individual scores in Test cricket and first-Class cricket. In 2004 against England, he scored unbeaten 400 runs, which is still unbreakable. Recently, his record was under threat during the Australia-Pakistan Test series.
In November, Australian opener David Warner scored his first triple century in his career. He was unstoppable in the Adelaide ground against Pakistan. Unfortunately, he could not reach the milestone of 400 runs as the captain Tim Paine declared that innings, keeping in mind the weather conditions. Warner scored unbeaten 335 runs but could not break the record of Brian Lara.
Brian Lara Believes Rohit Sharma and Prithvi Shaw Can Break His Test Record
Brian Lara was not happy that the Australian cricketer didn’t get the opportunity to break his record. He was not satisfied with the Australian skipper’s decision to declare the innings before Warner could touch the milestone.
However, Lara named the two players who could break the record apart from David Warner. He feels Rohit Sharma and Prithvi Shaw are the two candidates who have this potential. Rohit Sharma, who has recently earned his place back in Test team as an opener, was prolific against South Africa. He got his maiden Test double century against South Africa.
Brian Lara believes that if Rohit Sharma has a good day and gets the good pitch, he can break the record. He also has faith on the youngster Prithvi Shaw, who is back in the game after serving back-dated eight-month ban in doping case.
“A guy likes Rohit Sharma who you know you wonder if he’s still a test cricketer or not. If he gets going on a good day, on his day, on a good pitch, right situation he can do it.” Lara said as quoted by New Corp.
“It will need an attacking option. I know he’s fell off the radar a little bit, Prithvi Shaw was one of those attacking options. Hey, here’s a 19-year-old who has the world in front of him. Hopefully, he can come back soon.” he added further.
