Brisbane Heat Secure Pakistani Leg Spinner Yasir Shah For BBL 07

Pakistani bowler Yasir Shah will be part of Brisbane Heat squad for the upcoming edition of Big Bash League. The premier leg spinner in the world at the moment has reached an agreement with Brisbane Heat, and his inclusion is set to be a massive boost for the franchise.

The 31-year old has made a name for himself over the past couple of years as his ability to pick up wickets despite the fact that the conditions make him a valuable addition. Shah will become the second Pakistan player to be included in Brisbane Heat squad as they have already signed young Shahdab.

However, he is signed as a replacement player for either of Brendon McCullum or Shahdab Khan. But he will travel to Brisbane and train with the squad as he will be available if the franchise needs a replacement at any stage of the tournament.

McCullum hopes to shine for Brisbane heat

As per the BBL rules, any franchise can only have two international stars in their 18-man squad and can name two replacement players who can replace the internationals if they are unavailable.

Brisbane Heat head coach and former New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori has expressed his delight on the signing of Yasir Shah which will be a major boost for their campaign.

“Having Yasir agree to join us as a replacement player means that we can plan for the series with some certainty,’’ he said.

“Shadab Khan has been going from strength-to-strength for Pakistan since signing with us and there is the possibility he could be required for international duty during the BBL.

“Having an experienced ‘like for like’ player such as Yasir to call upon means we can hopefully have continuity with our playing plans.

“He’s a very accomplished player in Test, One Day and T20 formats, and having him around will also benefit the slow bowlers in our squad, especially someone like Mitch Swepson who is a young bowler rapidly gaining more experience transitioning between white and red ball cricket.”

Brendon McCullum will be leading the side, and Australian players Chris Lynn, Joe Burns and Ben Cutting form the core of the team for the upcoming season. The franchise are still looking to fill in their three vacant spots ahead of their opening game against Melbourne Stars on December 20.

Brisbane Heat squad:

Joe Burns, Ben Cutting, Brendan Doggett, Jason Floros, Sam Heazlett, Shadab Khan (International), Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Lalor, Chris Lynn, Brendon McCullum (International, Captain), Jimmy Peirson, Matt Renshaw, Alex Ross, Mitchell Swepson, Mark Steketee
