Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman Asks BCCI For Remuneration For Their Services
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of BCCI has asked the board to pay them remuneration for picking up the Head Coach of Indian cricket team. Members of CAC viz Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman had a meeting to select the Head Coach of the side after India’s game against Sri Lanka where they informed Rahul Johri, the CEO of BCCI that they won’t work for free and need a reward for their services. Johri will now forward these words to the Vinod Rai led COA, who will take a final call over this over this matter whether to pay or not.
“This happens to be a BCCI sub-committee, plus one of them happens to be a BCCI member. Since members of various other BCCI committees don’t get paid, CAC can’t be an exception. There was this demand earlier too, but BCCI turned it down. Even at that point, we had sent them a ‘scope of work’ document. They sent it back to us, but we expressed our helplessness. The ‘scope of work’ document had the terms of reference, but no monetary commitment,” said a BCCI official.
The demand for remuneration for CAC was first proposed in the year 2015 – the same year when the committee was formed – but the demand was deferred that time.
Last year in 2016, when a revamped BCCI authority led by Anurag Thakur invited applications for the post of the Head Coach, it was the committee of CAC that interviewed all the applicants and inked upon Anil Kumble. This year as well, they have the same job but has asked for remuneration for their work.
CAC is expected to announce the new coach after the completion of Champions Trophy and in all possibility, Anil Kumble is expected to be retained by the committee for a longer period of time, maybe till 2019 World Cup because just two years are left for the World Cup 2019 and if the change the coach next year, then it can have effect preparations of Indian cricket team.
Virender Sehwag, Dodda Ganesh, Lalchand Rajput, Richard Pybus, Craig McDermott and Tom Moody are in the fray of becoming next coach of Indian cricket team.
