West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) axed the two-time World T20 winning captain Darren Sammy that left the Caribbean cricket fans in disgust. Now WICB has made Carlos Brathwaite as their new captain for the T20 cricket.
The 28-year-old all-rounder will have the first assignment as the captain of the West Indies later this as WT20 winning West Indies team will take on India in a two-match series in Florida.
The allrounder in the final of 2016 World T20 final famously hit four sixes to win the WT20 for West Indies against England at the iconic Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
Sammy was asked after a regime of six years. In 2012 in Sri Lanka under Sammy’s captaincy, West Indies won the WT20 for the first time.
But now Sammy’s time with West Indies as captain is curtailed by the new chairman of selectors Courtney Browne.
In the wake of Sammy’s axe, his fans decided to boycott the third Test of the four-match series between West Indies and India at Darren Sammy Stadium in St. Lucia, starting from August 9. People in the Caribbean are also very angry as many think that Sammy’s plain speak after winning the 2016 WT20 final didn’t go down well with authorities of West Indies cricket. Sammy, to his credit, spoke from his heart and told the truth so he was victimized, as per many fans.
Before the final, West Indies don’t have any kits so their jersey was printed in Kolkata and they played as a united team. After winning the tournament, they showed their anger over how they were treated by West Indies Cricket Boards for not communicating with the team.
