In the inauguration match of the ICC Championship Trophy 2017, England won the toss and elected to field first. Bangladesh set up a fighting target of 308 runs but they failed to register the victory as Joe Root and Alex Hales played blistering knocks.
England lost the early wicket of opener Jason Roy but Hales played gritty innings. He scored 95 runs before Sabbir Rahim picked his wicket. He helmed the match-winning 159 runs partnership with Joe Root who scored 133 runs to led England to win their first game.
