Champions Trophy : Everything Went Wrong, Says Shakib Al Hassan

Playing in their second warm-up match, defending champions made short work of their sub-continental neighbour bowling them out for 84 in 23.5 overs at the Oval after piling up a commanding 324 for 7.

An all-win record after beating Blackcaps and Bangladesh in warmups India would go confidently in the main matches whereas Bangladesh lost both matches, first against Pakistan and today against India.Bangladesh surrendered meekly in the face of some outstanding bowling by the Indian pacers.

The pace duo of Umesh and Bhuvneshwar posed tough questions by relentlessly bowling just outside the off-stump.

In a post- match presentation Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hassan said that nothing worked out for their team.

He said, “Everything went wrong. We just tried too many things today. The bowling did okay. With the batting department certainly not an ideal way to get into the tournament.”

He also spoke of Bangladesh’s recent performances in England and Ireland.

“Before this game, the batters had a good time in England and Ireland. Some of our guys who have played here before do know what to do. We cannot control the weather. We hope to do well in all departments of the game.” he added.

Bangladesh failed miserably and crippled under bad performance with the bat. What Indian seamers did and how they utilised the outcast conditions was not what Bangladeshi bowlers could.

Bangladesh next faces England on June 1 where they would like to start the tournament on a positive note!
