Former England skipper Charlotte Edwards, who has led national side to lift the World Cup in 2009 against New Zealand, terms the hosts as favourites for lifting the Women’s World Cup against India on July 23.

“I think England will win the final,” Charlotte wrote in a column for ICC’s digital website.

The 37-year-old Huntingdon-born, who announced his international retirement, last year, revealed it’s going to be a thrilling contest between both the two competitive teams.

“I hope it’s an exciting game that’s fitting of a Lord’s final and the amazing tournament we’ve witnessed so far,” Charlotte further wrote.

Moreover, Charlotte has praised the two experienced campaigners of India; Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami while stating the ‘legends of the game’ deserve to be the part of the memorable final, before adding she was proved wrong by India after a splendid show in the 50-over competition.

Charlotte stated it would be an exciting time for Indian skipper Mithali and experienced fast bowler Jhulan, as they are playing their last World Cup while donning national colours.

“India have been so impressive and I wasn’t expecting that style of cricket,” Charlotte maintained.

Interestingly, India qualified for the grand-finale after thumping 36-run victory over Meg Lanning-led Southern Stars at Derby on Thursday following blitzkrieg from vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur.
