To manage the workload of the player is an important part of the game which should be arranged by team management. The players are given rest so that they can maintain their efficiency. The world-class bowler Jasprit Bumrah has proven fruitful in all the formats. Chetan Sharma opines that the player should be given rest from red-ball cricket in India. In his opinion, Bumrah is the player who has played a crucial role but his talent should not be wasted in Test matches in India.
“I think he should be rested (from Tests in India). We should not waste a talent like him. There’s a reason why he’s the best bowler in the world now, we shouldn’t test him in these conditions at all,” Sharma told Hindustan Times in an exclusive chat.
In the ICC World Test Championship 2019-21, India is on the top of the points table with 120 points. India is lined up with continues Test matches in home ground. South Africa three-match Test series will start from 2nd October where Burmah is in the squad. Next is the two-match home Test series against Bangladesh.
“World Test Championship is going on and Bumrah is very important for India’s plans. There’s no need to prove it to the world that Bumrah can take wickets on Indian pitches. Ultimately we need to win and earn points,” Sharma added.
Chetan Sharma gives options in place of Jasprit Bumrah
Sharma said that the Indian team has best bowlers like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Navdeep Saini. He opines that the other strong players in the bowling department should be considered.
“Times have changed, gone are the days when we used to depend only on Kapil Dev as the lone wicket-taking fast bowler. Now we have one of the best bowling line-ups in the world. We have Bhuvneshwar, Shami, Ishant, Navdeep is also there, so give them chances, why put pressure only on Bumrah alone? Bumrah should be called only when it’s necessary.”
Jasprit Bumrah has played 12 Test matches, 58 ODIs and 42 T20Is for India. The yorker King has taken 103 wickets in ODI since he made his debut in 2016.
Sharma has faith in Jasprit Bumrah bowling but he has a fear that if his workload is not managed he might get injured.

“He has the talent to pick wickets on every track but my only concern is, he shouldn’t pick up an injury playing on lifeless tracks,” Sharma added.
