India has produced extraordinary batsmen like Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, and Virat Kohli. These three great batsmen have ruled the world with their willow. When asked to pick the best batsman among the mentioned trio, Chetan Sharma picked Sunil Gavaskar over the other two great players.

Former Indian pacer, who has played 23 Test matches and 65 ODIs, has shared most of his cricket career with Gavaskar. He stated that the former opening batsman fearlessly faced the pacers during his illustrious career. At that time, batsmen feared facing West Indies bowlers like Joel Garner, Andy Roberts, Colin Croft, and Michael Holding but Gavaskar dominated them.

According to Chetan Sharma, the former cricketer was special because he played pacers without wearing a helmet.

“I think it’s definitely Sunil Gavaskar and it’s not because I have played most of my cricket with him. I have played with Sachin as well, from 1989 to 1994. I obviously haven’t played with Virat but I have seen him play on television, more than he must have seen himself play.

“But Sunil Gavaskar, playing without a helmet to Joel Garner, Andy Roberts, and Michael Holding was a huge thing because facing those bowlers was always terrorizing… Nothing can beat Sunil Gavaskar’s herculean efforts against those bowlers,” Chetan Sharma said during a live session on Facebook with Sportskeeda.

The 54-year-old picked the better captain between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The captaincy debates never end because the latter has led the team to four title wins while Kohli is still far from the title. But Chetan picked Kohli as the better captain, saying that his aggressiveness makes him special.
