Stats: Cheteshwar Pujara Breaks Chandu Borde's 52-Year-Old Record Batting Record 1

Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara and his love affair with Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad continues, as on the first day of one-off Tests, he surpassed Chandu Borde’s record of scoring the most number of runs in a single home season.

Pujara, who scored his maiden ton against New Zealand on this ground in 2012, later notched up his highest total of 204 against Australia in 2013 at the same venue. He on Thursday missed out on reaching his another hundred in Hyderabad by 17 runs but managed to break a 52-year-old record.

Speaking about the milestone, Pujara, a Saurashtra born completed a total of 1605 runs, one ahead of Borde’s 1604 he registered in the 1964-65 season. In the list of most runs by a batsman at home in a season, he holds the number three slot too with 1585 runs in 2012/13 season. West Indian Frank Worrell stands on the fourth place after he scored 1560 runs in 1950/51 season.

Pujara has been in some form lately, having scored 919 runs this season, including three hundreds and five fifties.

Chandu Borde, born in Pune was one of India’s promising batting talent in the 50’s era. By the time his career, which spanned around eleven years, he was one of the country’s best all-rounder. In the 55 matches he played, Borde scored 3061 runs at an average of nearly 36. Meanwhile, he notched a total of five hundreds with his best of 177* came against Pakistan in Chennai in 1961.
