Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara laid down with the flu and didn’t come out to field on the second day of the second Test against New Zealand here on Saturday.
However, according to the team sources, there is “nothing serious” and it was proven correct when he batted at his usual number 3 position in India’s second innings.
“Pujara was down with the flu and rested as a precautionary measure. There’s nothing serious, he will be fine,” a team source said.
Pujara in the first innings of India’s 1st innings of 250th Test at Eden Gardens that helped India to post 316 runs in the first innings. In the second innings, he was dismissed for 4 runs.
With Pujara not coming to the field, both Gautam Gambhir and Umesh Yadav were seen fielding in phases as New Zealand finished the day at 128 for seven in reply to India’s first-innings total of 31t6 all out. India lead the three-match series 1-0.
Meanwhile, Indian seamers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammad Shami helped India to get 112 runs first innings lead as the former took five wickets and the latter took three.
New Zealand were all out for 204.
But, New Zealand bowlers in the second innings didn’t let Indian batsmen settle down at the crease.

The highest scorer was Virat Kohli who scored 45 before being bowled by Trent Boult.
