Chris Gayle eager to return to Test cricket 1

He might be the Universe Boss in T20’s and an absolute legend in the shorter forms of the game, but while talking about test cricket, one feels that Chris Gayle hasn’t achieved too much considering his talent. Gayle, who is a regular for several T20 franchises across the globe, was pivotal in West Indies’ success in both their World T20 triumphs. However, he last played a test in September 2014 against Bangladesh, and since then has been out of the test setup.

On the sidelines of an event, the Jamaican giant admitted that he was eager to mark his return to test cricket. Gayle, who has 15 test centuries to his account in 103 games, said that he spoke with officials of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and was doing his absolute best in order to be back in tests.

“I am in talk with WICB for a possible return to test cricket, the board and the players are trying to sort things out, and hopefully one day it will happen and everyone will be on the same page. There have been meetings, effort, and progress to get everything on track for West Indies cricket. It’s a possibility that I could return. We are in talks, so we’ll see what happens,”

the southpaw claimed.

While speaking about the current test setup, Gayle quickly added that the players should mature and the seniors should play their part by guiding them along.

“To be successful in Tests will actually take time since it’s a rebuilding process, the youngsters in the team need to mature, gain a lot of experience, and they still need a few senior players here and there to actually guide them along.”

The brawny left-hander mentioned that West Indies were poor in tests as they didn’t play too frequently.

“We only play cricket in short sessions and then we switch off, so that’s how we tend to lose a lot of Test matches. In the shorter format of the game, it’s just boom, boom and check if the game is over.“We lack patience, as we are very attacking people who want to play shots most of the times. So sometimes we tend to fall to a loose delivery as well.”

Gayle concluded.
