Big Bash League franchise Brisbane Heat’s Coach Daniel Vettori has said swashbuckling batsman Chris Lynn should be considered to play all formats of international cricket as he has that knack of producing valuable knocks at crucial junctures.
Vettori, former New Zealand skipper, seems more inclined towards Lynn, who belted an unbeaten 84 to see his side thumping Hobart Hurricanes by seven wickets with 22 balls to spare.
The 37-year-old believes Lynn could become a favourite contender for Test cricket in the foreseeable future.
“He is an aggressive player but he is also highly skilful and a very thoughtful player. That’s the combination of things you want in any format,” Vettori said
Chris Lynn has been enjoying his BBL heroics after producing some back-to-back match-winning performances for his team.
“I don’t think people give him enough credit. His understanding and intelligence about the game is the reason he is doing so well,” Vettori added.
“You become immune to it because you see his quality of striking all the time,” Vettori said on Lynn after witnessing the huge six off Shaun Tait’s delivery.
Lynn featured in a Sheffield Shiled game this season after returning from a shoulder injury. For Queeensland, the bit-hitter has amassed 2708 runs at an average of 44.39.
“When blokes like Taity are bowling that quick it’s either ’I have to get them or they get me’ – that’s my theory,” Lynn said.
With current performances, Lynn is expected to be a part of Australia’s squad for three-match Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka in February.
Earlier this week, Lynn scored 85 not out to take his team home by three wickets in a thriller against Sydney Thunder.
“I haven’t played a Shield game. Obviously the (Test) ambition is there but it is hard to put a name in front of selectors when I haven’t hit a red ball for close to 12 months now,” Lynn concluded.
