Australia batsman sensation Chris Lynn, after being named in Australia’s 13-member squad for the three match KFC Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka this month, has been given a week’s time by Cricket Australia to prove his fitness.
Lynn was ruled out of the One-Day International series against Pakistan before pulling out of the recently concluded Big Bash League due to a neck injury.
“The neck is getting there. I saw the specialist this morning. I’ve got another week of rehab and rest so hopefully in seven days it comes good and I can hit the nets and prepare as best as possible for the upcoming games against Sri Lanka,” Lynn was quoted as saying by Cricket.com.au
The 26-year-old injury-marred batsman Lynn was also announced as the Player of the Tournament of the Big Bash’s sixth edition.
The batting sensation played five games for BBL franchise Brisbane Heat, and scored 309 runs at an average of 154.40 with three half-centuries.
“There’s not a great deal of physio I can do with it being a nerve. Rest is the most important thing. “I think because I’ve had it for such a long time and I was playing through the Big Bash with it, it’s going to be a slower healing process. Fingers crossed it comes good,” Lynn said.
In the past three seasons, Lynn, who made his international debut in 2014 against England, had suffered shoulder injury thrice.
“There is a surgery option there but that’s the last resort for me. I’ve had enough of those. The less time I spend on the hospital bed the better. Hopefully I can get my range back. I know if I get that back then I can get back in the nets, hitting balls and hopefully pain free,” Lynn added.
The Queensland-born dasher injured his troublesome left shoulder during the practice session in Kandy, Sri Lanka.
However, Lynn was eventually ruled out of the two-match T20 series last September.
“I think the depth in Australian cricket, especially in that (T20) format even though we haven’t won a World Cup, is definitely there,” Lynn revealed.
Former Australia player Mike Hussey expressed that Lynn, who is a vital cog in the wheel for the Australian T20 team, should be given enough time to work on his game to prepare for a major ICC event.
“Lynn will be coming into his prime by the time we hit the World T20. We need to give him an opportunity and a good run at it. We can’t just bring him in for a game here and there and then get rid of him and then bring him in again,” Hussey said on Lynn.
The first game of the three-match T20 series will start on February 17 in Melbourne, followed by February 19 in Geelong and February 22 in Adelaide.
