Chris Morris Raring to go after Long Lay-off Due to Injury

South Africa bowling all-rounder Chris Morris is all set to make a return to cricket after the prolonged gap since he picked the back spasm in England early this year.

The 30-year-old Pretoria-born Morris played his previous Test at the Oval which was won by England by 239 runs when Ben Stokes was adjudged Man of the Match for his outstanding performances.

Morris following the extensive rehabilitation programme will feature for the domestic side Titans against Lions in Johannesburg.

Morris bagged three wickets and scored 26 runs in the match.

In the recent past, Morris has been struggling with the back injury which further forced him to work on his basics and focus on his strengthen then trying out for extra pace.

Moreover, it was the speed which forced the promising all-rounder to be sidelined for little over four months from the cricket field.

Morris was subsequently ruled out of the fourth and final Test.

Under the dynamic leadership of Albie Morkel, Titans side has been in some kind of form in the Twenty20 championship in South Africa.

So far, Titans won four matches out of five fixtures as they went on to collect 21 points to top the table.

With the addition of Morris, the core of the team will be strengthened as the Ram Slam T20 franchise Titans have had already availed the services of AB de Villiers followed by gloveman Quinton de Kock and Dean Elgar.

Waiting eagerly to return for the national side, Morris believes the first push during the Ram Slam T20 Challenge competition would play a significant role and further give him an idea of how the body has shaped up owing to the recovery phase.

It would be interesting to see whether Morris would be a part of the South African squad, as his national side will host first-ever four-day Boxing Day Test in Port Elizabeth against Zimbabwe before taking on India from January 5, 2018, in Cape Town.

On the other side, it’s a crucial stage for Morris, in a bid to play the international season; the right-arm bowler has to prove his fitness to make it into the national fold.

Out of action, Morris, who has just played four Tests for the Proteas made his Test debut against England at Cape Town in June 2016.
