A citizen named Rana Faizul Hasan has filed a petition against Mohammad Amir in the Sindh High Court in Pakistan, calling for the imposition of lifetime ban on him. The petition was filed on January 30th, a day after Mohammad Amir was cleared by the ICC to play domestic cricket. Hasan said that the players who had brought disgrace to the nation should not be allowed to play the sport again.

“Amir and the others brought shame to Pakistan and spoilt its cricket image,” Hasan said.

The petition has been accepted by the court and Justice Mazhar Ali has formed a two-member bench for the first formal hearing that will take place on February 16th.

Earlier, PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan had defended Amir’s return to domestic cricket in saying that the 22-year old had satisfied the ICC by serving his punishment, which shows that he has reformed as a person.

“From the start, Amir was remorseful about what he had done and cooperated fully with the ICC anti-corruption unit and with us. That is why he has been given a chance to play domestic cricket. We didn’t fast track his case. It took us nearly over a year to get the permission from the ICC.

“There is no doubt that Amir has shown himself to be a reformed person and he cooperated all along. But even then the PCB will be monitoring his behaviour and activities when he resumes playing domestic cricket,” Khan said.
