CK Khanna Likely To Be Appointed As BCCI’s Interim President

After coming hard at the officials while making tenure period clear for the administrators, the Supreme Court is likely to announce the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) official CK Khanna as the President of Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) on an interim basis.

The apex body is going to announce the list of officials for the cricket governing body on January 24.

Khanna has stated that he has received the letter from the BCCI where they have acknowledged him as the senior-most BCCI vice-president.

“I have got a letter from BCCI on Jan 2 where it is acknowledged that I am the senior-most vice president,” Khanna said.

On January 2, the Supreme Court sacked Anurag Thakur and Ajay Shirke from the BCCI’s post of President and Secretary respectively for not implementing the reforms suggested by the Lodha Committee.

“As it is, these posts are ornamental. It doesn’t matter whether they stay or leave. The main power will be with the administrators and the CEO,” Khanna added.

However, the apex body had also made it clear in the previous hearing that the most senior BCCI Vice-President and the Joint Secretary would be the acting President and Secretary respectively for the BCCI.

It’s pertinent to mention that the Supreme Court has made it clear that a period of 18 years will stand as per the July 18 verdict.

Given this, the BCCI’s Joint Secretary Amitabh Chaudhary and the treasurer Aniruddh Chaudhary’s chances brightened for resuming their services for the BCCI.

The latest order revealed that the cumulative nine-year period will apply for administrator at an individual level following the state associations and the BCCI separately.

However, all the office bearers will have a short term as the Supreme Court appointed three-member administrative committee will be taking over from January 24.

As the Supreme Court-led three-member panel will be holding the post, the office bearers will be having a short term at the BCCI before setting the parent cricket body in order following the implementation of Lodha reforms in state associations as well.
