The mighty CSK batting collapsed under the bowling might of T&T as they lost the match by 8 wickets. With the thumping victory T&T has topped the group and has booked their semis match against Mumbai Indians. Chennai lost their first match of the Champions League and to be honest they lost it very badly indeed.
Chennai suffered an early blow when Michael Hussey misread an in swinger from Ravi Rampaul to find his word work rearranged. Suresh Raina 38(29) continued his stroke making from where he left the previous match with some heavy hits to the fence. Murali Vijay made 27 off 24 before he too was castled by Simmons.
MS Dhoni promoted himself up the order but found it difficult to get going. By the time, wickets tumbled at the other end and MS soon found himself running short of partners. Albie Morkel cut a very sorry figure with bat as he couldn’t read the deliveries of Sunil Narine. He managed just 4 from 16 deliveries he faced before getting bowled by Ravi Rampaul.
Chennai Innings saw three run bizarre run out where batsmen threw their wickets away. Some run outs even made CSK fans roll up in laughter as they were bundled out for a mere total of 118.
Trinidad & Tobago had a cautious start with Lendl Simmons and Lewis kept milking singles. Chennai’s bowling didn’t have the edge to defend the small total and they were unable to pick wickets either. Simmons scored a well structured 63 off 41 with five hits to the fence and four above it. He was given able support by Lewis who scored 38 off 35.
With the empathetic 8 wickets wins, T&T will now face Mumbai Indians in their semis clash where as CSK will face the unbeaten Rajasthan Royals at Jaipur on Friday.
