COA Clears Puducherry to Become Associate Member of BCCI
The Supreme Court Appointed Committee of Administrators cleared the doubt over Puducherry’s associate membership in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) today. Out of the three major parties pushing for their stakes to represent Pudicherry, the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators took their decision in favour of the Cricket Association of Puducherry (CAP).
In it’s Senior General Meeting earlier in the month, BCCI had approved Puducherry’s associate membership.
“The COA is of the view that there is no reason not to accept the recommendation of the Affiliation Committee and grant affiliation to the CAP. The submission made, and documents submitted by the claimants do not disclose any reason, let alone compelling reasons, to reject the Affiliation Committee’s recommendation which has been made after two visits to Puducherry.
“Accordingly, the COA decides that the CAP should be granted associate membership for the Union Territory of Puducherry,” said the COA as per reports in the Indian Express.
Meanwhile, Team India is currently playing a three-match ODI series against New Zealand, and after losing the opening ODI in Mumbai, they bounced back strongly in the 2nd ODI in Pune to level the three-match series 1-1. In the first encounter, Virat Kohli went past former Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting to become the 2nd highest century maker in ODI cricket with 31 tons behind his name. Only Sachin Tendulkar with 49 centuries is ahead of him.
Despite Kohli’s valiant efforts, Ross Taylor and Tom Latham made that century go in vain as they batted splendidly and helped the Kiwis chase the total of 281 with relative ease in the end. Yesterday it was a sensational effort from the Indian bowlers which helped them restrict the Kiwis to a manageable 230. Later on, it was Shikhar Dhawan and Dinesh Karthik who scored useful half-centuries as India romped home by six wickets and with four overs to spare.
