The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has gone through some major changes in recent times and it seems that there could be another change of personnel controlling the game in the country. The Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (COA) has asked for a removal of the current office bearers of the BCCI.

The acting president, CK Khanna, secretary Amitabh Choudhary and treasurer Anirudh Choudhary have come under the knife to be axed from their posts in the BCCI. The trio had failed to implement changes recommended by the Lodha committee in January. The COA said the Supreme court had already set an example by removing Anurag Thakur (president) and Ajay Shirke (secretary), as they too had failed to implement changes recommended by the Lodha committee.

The COA submitted its fifth status report and quoted,

“The current office bearers of the BCCI have demonstrated scant regard for the directions issued by the Committee of Administrators and continue to flout the same with impunity.”

The Supreme court will have a hearing on the case on 18th August. COA further added in their report and said,

“There is a need to direct that the existing office bearers of the BCCI shall forthwith cease and desist from being associated with the working of BCCI.”

Former Indian spinner Bishan Singh Bedi was in favour of the COA and believes that the committee could have axed the officials themselves as they have the powers to do so. The legendary spinner said,

I think they have the powers. There is no point in tolerating the BCCI officials anymore. In my humble opinion, you can’t be politically correct all the time, put your foot down and be ruthless.”

Bedi who has never shied away from expressing his feelings out in the media believes that COA should be strict in its functioning and should go to any extent to clean cricket again.
