CoA Set To Submit A Status Report To The SC, Directs BCCI To Implement All Reforms 1

The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) has told the BCCI to implement all the suggested guidelines and then place their reservations against them. The CoA made the announcement during the recent meet with the state association officials at the board headquarters in Mumbai on Saturday (June 24).

The meeting was divided into two sections. The first meet took place at 11 am where the representatives of state associations from the south, central and the western zones met with the CoA. The second meet commenced at 2 pm and saw the representatives of associations from East and North turn up for the talks.

“There are two-three Lodha reforms which the state associations have expressed difficulty in implementing. They’ve been told to adopt all the reforms first, and then ask the Supreme Court to reconsider (on July 14, the day the court reopens after a summer vacation), so that the apex court also considers (their case favourably),” a top BCCI official told TOI.

The BCCI officials have objections regarding four reform – ‘one state one vote’, a number of national selectors being reduced to three from five, the 70 and above age cap for office-bearers, and the three-year cooling off period after every term.

The BCCI, however, is likely to stick to their stance. A BCCI member admitted that there would be no such implementation passed at the BCCI’s Special General Meeting (SGM) on Monday.

“The CoA wants the BCCI to first adopt the new constitution, drafted by the Lodha Committee. The state associations are supposed to adopt the new constitution within one year from the date of the BCCI enforcing it,” he explained.

“They (the CoA) had promised us that they’ll request the court to reconsider a few of these reforms, but they’ve gone back on their word and want us to do that. Do you think that the court will change its decision once we implement the reforms,” lamented a BCCI member.

The state members seem to be totally united in opposition to the reforms. It was reported that they had an informal meet in a city hotel to discuss on Sunday evening to discuss these clauses.

The CoA, however, is prepared to do things in its own way and are set soon file a ‘status report’ on the implementation of the reforms. The report will be submitted to the SC on July 14.

The BCCI SGM will also witness discussions on Rahul Dravid’s future as the coach of the India Under-19 team.

“The terms of Dravid’s contract will be finalised in the next two-three days. The talks with him as on-going,” said a source.
