Coach Ravi Shastri And Other Support Staff To Get 45 Day Extension Post World Cup
Indian head coach Ravi Shastri along with his support staff’s contracts are set to expire at the end of the world cup. However, they will continue in their positions for another 45 days post world cup.
The Committee of Administrators (CoA) are planning to hand an extension to the coaching staff. However, the CoA will start searching for suitable candidates for the positions after the mega event in England.
“After some discussion, the CoA decided that the contracts for the support staff can be extended by 45 days on an ad-hoc basis and that interviews of the support staff should be conducted after the World Cup,” the minutes of CoA meeting, said in BCCI’s official website.
Currently Sanjay Bangar is working as batting coach for Team India. On the other hand, Bharat Arun is the bowling coach, while R Sridhar is the fielding coach.
The CoA already took the matter to Supreme Court’s notice back in March. However, the apex body clearly states the involvement of CAC.
Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) consists of Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman. However, the trio had already informed BCCI that they are not interested in the positions after conflict of interest cases filed against them.
As of today, the CAC remains disbanded. But according to supreme court, the CEO of BCCI will have the right to appoint team officials. Meanwhile, CAC will have the right to appoint new head coach for Team India.
Another interesting fact is Ravi Shastri and his staff does not have any contract extension clauses in their paperwork. All in all, it will be interesting to see how BCCI will approach in selecting new head coach for India.
BCCI appointed Ravi Shastri as coach for Team India after Champions Trophy 2017.
He was selected after Anil Kumble’s resignation from the position among controversial circumstances.
The Indian cricket team have looked like strong contenders for world cup so far. They defeated both South Africa and Australia comprehensively. But tougher challenges in New Zealand and Pakistan wait for India.
The team are working hard as a unit. They displayed some quality cricket and were in complete control during their two wins so far. But New Zealand poses a stronger threat on Thursday. The Kiwis already won against India in the warm up games leading into the world cup.
But India will still remain favorites for the match despite Shikhar Dhawan’s thumb injury.
