A former Kochi Tuskers Kerala player and now the coach of Gujarat Lions team Brad Hodge have asked BCCI to compensate players who were a part of Kochi Tuskers Kerala franchise in the year 2011. Brad Hodge was also the part of the franchise in their first and the only IPL season.
Hodge tweet that “I see Mohammed Shami got compensated for injury during IPL in 2015 from BCCI. Any chance they can compensate the Kochi tuskers players.”
The Kochi Tusker Kerala team was inducted to IPL as the ninth team in the cash-rich league. The franchise’ contract was terminated in September 2011 after it failed to deposit the necessary bank guarantee in the stipulated time period. International stars like S. Sreesanth, Brendon McCllum, Ravindra Jadeja, Mahela Jayawardene and many others were part of the franchise. Brad Hodge was also one them. It seems that players suffered a loss with the dissolution of the franchise.
Hodge has tweeted regarding the matter after BCCI has paid an amount of 2.2 crores to Mohammad Shami as compensation for the loss he suffered by missing the 2015 IPL.
Shami was forced to skip IPL due to a knee injury which he sustained during the World Cup 2015. An injured Shami decided to continue in the World cup as he was one of the experienced and successful bowler for the team. The team needed him at any cost as there was no one back home who could replace him. BCCI decided to compensate Shami for his dedication and love for the team.
The demand made by Hodge demand comes as a surprise as BCCI never takes responsibility to compensate a player for loss in IPL. Also, Hodge is not an Indian and it’s not BCCI fault that the franchise did not pay the players. This is a vague demand made by Hodge. Sooner or later he may delete his tweet when he will face some outrage for this.
