Yuzvendra Chahal has given credit to his side’s captain Virat Kohli for giving him a freedom to express after the leg-spinner took six wickets and helped win the Bengaluru T20I by 75 runs and thus the three-match series 2-1.
Speaking to the circle of cricket, Chahal said he would have been happy with two or three wickets but has opened arms for appreciation after he wrecked apart the England’s batting line-up. Becoming only the third man in history to pocket six wickets in a T20I match, Chahal said he is happy to perform and contribute to the team’s success.
Claiming to have felt the world on his feet that night, the leggie said it feels good to be a Man-of-the-Match and the series in his second international outing only.
“It is obviously a great feeling for me. Had I taken just 2-3 wickets, I would still have been very happy as long as I could help my team to win the game. It was just my second series with the Indian team and my first Man of the Match and Series. It indeed feels special to me and I feel positive about my cricket. I have worked a lot on my bowling and my game plan.”
Having played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for three years in the IPL now, Chahal knows the nature of the pitch and how small boundaries at Chinnaswamy stadium has pushed batsmen’s to unleash their beast mode in the past. Unearthing success on such a batting paradise deck can lure in confidence for anyone, and in Chahal’s case, it just did the same.
The 26-year-old have had a first-hand experience of playing against the best in the game, and in taming England’s hope in the last T20I, he brought his A game on the day.
“We all know that the Chinnaswamy is a high scoring ground since the boundaries are smaller and that’s the reason why bowlers have a little bit of worry in their mind,” he said. “But that worry has gone away from my head since I have been playing here since 3 years, it’s more like my home ground now. I had the confidence of doing well here since I have played so much here.”
With the cash-rich league around the corner, Chahal hopes he carry the momentum into the tournament and further said he will only concentrate on performing well and else, it’s all up to the all mighty.
